Paid in Full

by Dave Quintana - Servants of the Word

It is not popular today to say it, but it is true nonetheless: we were dead in our trespasses and sins. There was a bond that stood against us. And Jesus canceled this bond by nailing it to the cross. I suggest that each time you see a cross you imagine a piece of paper nailed to it. That paper has your name on it and it declares you a sinner. But thanks be to God—your name is crossed off—and beside your name it says "paid in full".

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Col 2:13-15 ESV
